Rachel Horn had the good fortune of being imported to Mexico by her parents at a very young age. Her father, an aspiring Texas novelist, and her mother a captured bride from the stage of the Met arrived in San Miguel for their honeymoon in 1960 and never left. They were the first foreign developers in San Miguel, bringing the unique idea of aesthetic urban planning. Rachel, while schooled in the United States, more than retained her Mexican roots, and several years ago, answered the strong call of life in Mexico.

At the moment, she is opening a high-end design showroom with her brother Thomas. While it is client oriented, the entire line of metal furniture, gold leafed mirror, unique lighting and current creations will be shown to the public.

Clients report that Rachel has perfect pitch. There is a spatial tuning fork embedded somewhere in her collective intelligence that tells her where the dead center of elegance lies. Rachel does an interior design project as if she were conducting a philharmonic tuning session. Beauty and subtle excitement fill her spaces. It is her music.

Rachel's rooms, be they three or thirty, resonate the desires of their owners. Her trademark room would show a kind of fluid grace and breeding that accommodate, even accentuate the value in a silk blouse over a pair of jeans, so old and soft they are almost white, having a casual conversation with a tall Tuxedo.

One supposes Rachel found her love of the perfect thing for the right place by being surrounded by the classic stone buildings and churches of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where she spent her childhood. Colonial Spanish architecture, battered and blessed by passing centuries, taught her about time and value and the soul that a simple workman's table could give a Manhattan apartment. Of course, education and experience play a part. Her choices always bring beauty, and often bring other qualities that echo mystery, history and classicism. We all know beauty is truth but Rachel says, in her slightly electric manner, it is also fun.

When she was doing a high profile hacienda on a ranch outside San Miguel the owners said it was like a magic show. Things appeared out of nowhere- things they had owned for years but had never really seen until they were set in a matrix of what Rachel called "neat stuff I found". Her treasure eye is relentless.
